Why is it then—that we’re all paying the price?

He shuts down the land, all by decree
We’re all stuck inside, we can never be free
It’s called the “new normal”

The sorcerers shout, claiming there is no doubt
The demons are all surely here
The sorcerers see, exclusively
When all the demons appear
They give us their tests

All for the quick and the dead
We’re grown so weary, in all of their theories
Just how these demons are spread

The emperor’s new clothes
He appears at the fair
He just won’t listen, when people stare
No one will tell him, there’s nothing there.

The emperor alights, from his white horse
He’s so insistent, shows no remorse
“It’s for your protection and he’ll stay the course.”

The sorcerers scream, that the plague is no dream
Your faces are now oozing pus
Deep in the ocean
We’ve discovered a potion, now you’re beholden to us
We’ll make you whole, if you sell all your souls
Obey if you value your wealth
We have a goal, to gain control
Of your precarious health

The emperor insists, cover your face
“It’s my holy plan, you must embrace”
You have no chances, for there’s no escape

He’s pulling our leg
We see no demons, causing the plague
Their explanations
Unacceptably vague
